FRANCISTOWN: Tonota police are investigating the deaths of two young lovers whose bodies were found lying still in the village on Monday evening. It is believed the deaths came after a love affair gone awry.

Tonota police station officer in charge of crime, Assistant Superintendent Loeto Ramabokwa said they suspect that the deaths occurred after an 18-year-old student of Mater Spei College was gunned down by her boyfriend, who later committed suicide by shooting himself. The police suspect that the two young lovebirds could have had a misunderstanding before the shocking incident occurred. Their dead bodies were found lying in the dusty streets of Tholo ward. "We suspect the love affair could have gone wrong. The 19-year-old boyfriend from the Tholo ward was spotted around 6pm on Monday in the company of his lover before the horrific incident was reported," explained Ramabokwa. The Mater Spei college student originates from Ditladi settlement but was a resident of Tholo ward at the time of her death. She was commuting to Francistown everyday for her secondary education. Police have confirmed that the young man used his parents' shotgun to kill his lover. He shot her in the head before taking his own life, about 10-15 metres away. The police have appealed to parents to keep all lethal weapons in safe custody, away from children to avoid incidents like this. Ramabokwa appealed to parents to advice their school going children to desist from engaging in love affairs.
