President Festus Mogae hailed the faction for its positive attitude at the last party treat in Tlokweng. Now sources in the faction say that members have adopted a wait and see position to find out if he will match his words with action. At a meeting last Sunday in Mogoditshane to brief members about the Tlokweng retreat, the faction delayed disbanding until Mogae acts. A statement from the faction commended the delegation to the Tlokweng retreat for discharging its mandate to convey concerns and grievances to Mogae. The statement signed by the spokesman of the faction, Atamelang Thaga says Barata Phathi is thankful to Mogae for his fair, honest and frank conciliatory response to the issues the delegation presented. The faction says it shares Mogae's view that the party needs to focus its collective efforts in building unity, trust and reconciliation. It commits itself to work with Mogae for party unity. However, information reaching Mmegi indicates the faction does not trust the BDP leadership to come up with any tangible action to appease its members. Proponents of the mistrust theory cite a numbers of cases in which Mogae had expressed intent to accommodate the group but failed to act. The Barata Phathi members are hoping that Mogae would accommodate them to rectify their marginalisation by the rival Nkate-Merafhe group - the A team. They want a cabinet reshuffle and a stop to espionage in the party.
