BEBS threatens to sue Gabz FM

Business and Enterprises Solutions Botswana (BEBS) have threatened to sue Gabz FM for using their trademark/brand name, Consumer Watchdog, in their Monday morning show.

This comes after the broadcaster and the company that was doing research work for the disputed radio show unceremoniously parted ways. Kate Harriman of BEBS who co-hosted the show with the station's Warona Setshwaelo and Thebe Mogapi told Mmegi yesterday that they had requested the station to desist from using their trademark at the end of their relationship two weeks back. She said that they had identified a radio station in which to broadcast their show and are due to finalise their agreements and that more companies were willing to sponsor them. Harriman said that; "if Gabz FM continues using our trademark, we will have no option but to take legal action to protect our brand." However, the General Manager of the station, Kennedy Otsheleng said he sees no reason why there should be a fuss about the whole matter. He said that the matter is over and they (Gabz FM) are still to decide whether or not to continue calling their programme "Consumer Watchdog". Gabz FM has indicated that they have engaged the services of a citizen-owned company to do research and follow-ups for the programme. The programme was a platform for consumers to share experiences about services they get from service providers. BEBS made follow-ups and research on the complaints and in some instances finding solutions to listeners' complaints.
