She stated that women need support from across the gender for the country to progress. Molokomme said that women fail to support other women for the same reasons that men do not support women. She said that it boils down to socialisation and the notion that women are not born to lead. Molokomme was responding to the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Moeng Pheto who had noted that women tend not to support each other. Pheto said it was sad during the last elections that two women - Pelonomi Venson and Tebelelo Seretse stood against each other in the race for the ruling party ticket in Serowe South constituency. He said people should avoid repeating the same mistake. Molokomme said parties should avoid putting women against each other in primary elections. She told women that everyone can be a leader and that leadership is not for a chosen few. She said that some women leaders are born while others are lucky to find themselves in conducive environments or to have role models such as mothers and aunts. She noted that she was lucky to have her mother as a role model. The leadership training, whose theme is 'leadership, gender mainstreaming, tackling HIV/AIDS and poverty,' will give the women leaders the opportunity to hone their skills, articulate and strategise on gender mainstreaming in policies and programming and to gain knowledge of how to deal with HIV/AIDS and Poverty. Molokomme who said she was still walking the road to leadership, encouraged the women to be prepared and not to behave like they do not want to be in leadership. She said they should be dedicated and be prepared to be criticised and be called names. "I didnt plan to be an Attorney General," she said. Molokomme said when the opportunity came, she took it after a reflection. She said Botswana is yet to achieve women empowerment and gender equality. She said because of the unequal power relations, HIV/AIDS is continuing to spread. She reiterated President Festus Mogae's sentiments that the pandemic will be won at a personal level. "Personal is political," she said. She advised the women not to allow others to mislead them. "You should refuse to be infected by an irresponsible partner," she said. The weeklong workshop is run by Tertiary Education Council (TEC) in collaboration with UN agencies and has attracted 60 women across the country.
