Bhamjee Should Apologise To Batswana

7/10/2006 4:40:39 PM (GMT +2)

I have always held both Ashford Mamelodi and Ismail Bhamjee in high esteem but what Mamelodi wants us Batswana to do for Bhamjee is uncalled for and unfortunate. The fact that Bhamjee accepted that he erred and apologised, gives us reasons and ammunition to attack him (for the same wrong that he is apologising for).

His apology does not make him innocent but rather is an acknowledgement on his part that he messed up big time. If at all the man wants us to remember the good that he did for our football (which we do), then he should unreservedly apologise to us as a nation. The fact that he claims that what he did is 'small', smirks of arrogance. The guy unreseverdly apologised to FIFA executive and was immediately on the first plane out of Germany. Now when it is time for him to apologise to us Batswana, the whole thing becomes a 'small issue'. If it is that small, why could not he tell that to Blatter and the whole of FIFA. Does the guy think so lowly of us Batswana? I am surprised that he even had the audacity to seek the VP's sympathy on the whole issue. Mamelodi must know that his dear friend Rre Bhamjee is no different from those ticket touts we usually see at the National Stadium. No one is taking away what Bhamjee did for football in this country but he should be man enough to acknowledge that he robbed those poor English fans and now we can only wonder how many times he did it before he was actually caught. We cannot apologise for our feelings towards this man and we are not just about to do it because of Mamlodi and the sooner you accept it the better. We might start looking at you and think that you too condone the wrong that your friend committed. This guy has undone the good work that BFA has done to put a spark on this country's soccer and we deserve better than your admonishment. He deserves what he is getting regardless of what good he has done. After all, he had always gotten those deserved compliments so now it is time for admonishments. And he is talking about his pension! Joseph Segopa By email Send us your comments about Mmegi newspaper Search For Old Newspaper Editions To advertise contact us through email
