Gabana Mooketsi (33), who is a Sergeant, appeared before Charumbira on July 19.
After investigations by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) it is alleged that on or about 10 February 2004, Mooketsi abused the authority of his office by soliciting an amount of P500 from a client by falsely purporting to arrest him.
Mooketsi who was not represented will appear for mention on August 2, where he will be asked to take a plea. Maxwell Senyika of DCEC represented the State.
Meanwhile on July 14, Joel Heii (29), an Assistant Finance Administrator, in the Ministry of Finance also appeared before Charumbira on one count of corruption. After DCEC investigations, it was alleged that on or about December 15, at or near Commerce Park, Heii corruptly received a sum of P180 as valuable consideration from a client as an inducement to renew a licence that had expired for Mortgage and Insurance (Pty) Ltd, the renewal of such a licence being a matter in which Heii was concerned in his capacity as a public officer. Heii who was not represented pleaded not guilty and was released on a P500 bail.
The next date of mention was set for September 14, where trial dates will be set. Tshidiso Mathis of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions represented the State.
