Is religion a cause of wars and strife? This is clearly a sensitive issue for some, perhaps many, people. Let me therefore declare at the outset that I am not a practising devotee of any religion, and that I am not "getting at" any religion. Major religions are about an afterlife and what one has to do to qualify for it, which makes their various followers so passionate and devoted, and once they believe, so committed. Historically, however, that commitment has harboured potentially abusive hostility to other faiths, as well as having actually been used to justify wars. People are entitled to their religious beliefs, but not to enforce them on, or kill, others. We need these holidays to rest
I'm shocked and perplexed to hear a collusion of irrational ideas from these two bodies of government. First it was the minister of presidential affairs, Phandu Sekelemani, who revealed that Cabinet is concerned by the number of public holidays in this country.Traditionalists are lousy
I guess being a member of one of the so-called principal tribes is sometimes painful and tragic, especially for those people who elevate their chiefs to the status of unearthly supreme beings who deserve unrestricted respect.National holidays should not be personalized
Different countries over the world have different holidays promulgated for varying reasons, some very queer and others amusing. Botswana has designated July 1 to commemorate and honour the life of the first President of the Republic of Botswana Sir Seretse Khama, who many people regard as the most prized political creature the country ever had.Sekoloto!!
Having been pronounced 'honorary men' the two female gatecrashers are now allowed to state their case freely and openly at this special meeting of the association of men that is presently gathered in the lounge of the shebeen Nitty Gritty.Moupo, the quintessence of blunder and inconsequence
The Mmegi edition of 5 July 2006 by way of comment and in typical fashion declares "the timing was perfect" No, it was not; it was scandalous and the sort of infamy of which only Moupo is capable of.
