Libyan leader, Muammar El-Ghadafi has launched an ambitious project to cater for Africa’s marginalised groups. The strategic project focuses on youth, children and women.
At a briefing yesterday, the new Libyan ambassador to Botswana, Assed Mohamed Almutaa said the undertaking will be known as “El-Ghadafi Project for African youth, African Child, and the African Woman”.

Almutaa noted that the project was necessitated by the tragic African situation characterised by armed conflicts, poverty and diseases. He pointed out that the economic, social and health indices have been declining in the past several years and “causing profound conditions of social unrest that would throw Africa into poverty”.
“The African continent is supposed to be the richest in the world in terms of resources, but that is not reflective of the quality of life of the people. In light of these realities, indeed the El-Ghadafi initiative is very significant as the first step to rescue the black continent from its ever deteriorating state and enjoins all governments to work towards making this project a success by making earnest contributions financially and humanly.”
Almutaa said the long-term project will establish branches, societies, clubs, credit banks, and donor funds as well as educational, health, cultural and training institutions for the youth, children and women in all corners of the African continent.
He said the project would work jointly with African governments and other international development organisations. He disclosed that his office has already briefed the Botswana government on the project.
