The former BCP secretary-general has been making unflattering statements about the party after he decamped to BNF. The BCP has reacted to Kgosipula’s onslaught and now the BNF is not happy especially about statements made by BCP publicity chief and Gaborone Central MP, Dumelang Saleshando.
The BNF has reacted angrily to Saleshando’s statement in Sunday Standard that it should not run itself like a jungle. The paper quoted the MP saying that it is up to the BNF leadership to instill discipline within its rank and file. “Now we are in the same pool and if one pisses in it, we should all be concerned by hygiene,” Saleshando told the Sunday Standard.
Enraged BNF publicity chief Moeti Mohwasa said Saleshando should be disciplined for the insulting words he has used against the BBNF. He maintained that Kgosipula was just giving a personal opinion. He said it is upon parties to take action against members that breach regulations. He dismissed claims that party president Otsweletse Moupo at some point could not act when he was requested to discipline wayward BNF members who were undermining the Memorandum of Agreement. He said Moupo has got a party to run and acts on the basis of what is happening in the BNF, not what BCP is thinking.
“We are shocked that now the attack on us has even moved to the BCP leadership. BCP should not behave like a bull in a China shop. After all, we know they are not committed to the initiative of cooperation of opposition parties. BCP should not treat BNF as its organ‚” he said.
Mohwasa stressed that the offending statements by Saleshando has made BNF doubt BCP’s sincerity in opposition cooperation. He said what Saleshando has said does not really build the initiative that they have started.
He said there is no anarchy in BNF like the BCP, which is rocked by defections. “He must explain why people are leaving the BCP and stop insulting BNF. What are they negotiating with us if we are chaotic?” he asked.
Mohwasa said they are now beginning to see patterns that BCP leadership is lodging serious attacks on them. He stressed that as a leadership they must lead by example. He said they are concerned by the tendency of some BCPs to poke their noses in BNF matters. “Why can’t they join rather than question our members on the streets?
Mohwasa said they would not demand that Saleshando apologises but he must desist from uttering offensive statements. He said the strained relations between the two parties will not harm opposition unity talks. “It is a bigger project that cannot suffer due to BCP’s attacks because some BCP leaders also believe that there is a better way of dealing with cooperation.”
