Gaborone Dam Water Level Rises

2/13/2006 4:45:38 PM (GMT +2)

After a long period of stagnation, the Gaborone Dam water level has risen up fast. By Saturday, the dam level was 61 percent full - an increase of over 30 percent in three days due to recent rains in the catchment areas.

However, the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has reminded the public that the water restrictions are still in place. The dam levels reached historic lows last year due to prolonged drought forcing the water authorities to institute emergency measures in Gaborone and its environs. Ever since the rains started last year, the water level appeared stagnant causing worries that it might not fill up. Last weekend, WUC said that due to the prolonged drought, the dam could not fill up fast.

Meanwhile, the Molatedi Dam is 19.2 percent full, Bokaa is 100 percent full and Nnywane is 101 percent full. Letsibogo Dam is overflowing at 101.6 percent while Shashe is 100 percent full.
