The local talent search, My African Dream, had its final for the junior category on Friday showing enormous talent by the ten-finalists.

The junior category final, held at Maitisong, saw 10 - including soloists and groups - talented young people beat it against each for a place in the top five, giving them a chance to contest in the final, which encompasses all the categories. The painful part about competitions is that at the end of the day there has to be a winner.

This does not necessarily imply that the others who do not win are not talented. The young hopefuls who made it to the top five are Patshimo Machu, a four year old from Francistown who recited an AIDS poem, a lovely pair, the Carnival Dance Team from Gaborone, 10 year old aspiring rap artist, Daniel Masita from Gaborone, 12 year old talented solo singer, Jaimee Pragassa from Gaborone, and a family trio, MC Squared, who did an original instrumental.

The judges had a tough job as all the young people who contested were very talented.

Firstly, the very young Machu who recited an AIDS poem without even forgetting a single word was amazing in the confidence he exhibited at his age. The four year old did not only win the hearts of the judges, she also won the audience as they cheered passionately after Machu had finished reciting her poem.

Pragassa, the twelve year old with a magic voice did Rihanna's Unfaithful so beautifully that the audience could not help but cheer before she finished her performance.

And then there was a young man who took Maitisong by storm as he even got the audience involved while doing his thing. The young aspiring rap artist, Masita, not only enjoyed his performance, he also got the audience to clap along.

The last two, the Carnival Dance Team, a lovely pair who did ballroom dancing extremely well also faired well in the eyes of the judges as well as the audience, and a family group, MC Squared, who did an instrumental which sounded too good for a group that young.

With the top five selected, the voting is now open to the public which will select their favourite amongst the finalist. The number allocated for the winners are two (2) for Machu. The Carnival Dance team got 1, Pragassa 4, Masita 3, and MC Squared 5. Mascom subscribers can cast their vote by sending the digit of their favorite finalist to 71117222.

While there were five winners on Friday, the others who did not make it as finalists also did very well. There was young Lindiwe Kgobero who sang Kelly Clarkson's Because of You wonderfully. The duo of Taffiny and Tashata did another Kelly Clarkson song Breakaway.

The E.X.O Girls from Francistown also put on a good dance performance as well as the Tok Boys from Gaborone. Lastly, Onkemetse "Rocky" Tshupeng of Francistown also showed the audience his musical capabilities by doing a gospel song by a South African artist beautifully.

The night was not just about selecting the top five. Four primary schools also competed. They were Leapotswe Primary School in Maun, Letlhabile Primary School in Gaborone, Gaborone Gymnastics Club (Westwood School) in Gaborone, and TKM Primary School in Gaborone.

First prize in that category went to Letlhabile Primary School who did a fantastic drama on cooperation, while the Gaborone Gymnastic Club scooped second price, and third price was awarded to TKM School.

The judges on the night included local musician, Punah Gabasiane, Luanne Alexander, Stuart White, Warona Setshwaelo, Shafiek Kimmie, Lorato Tebogo, Shike Olsen and David Slater.
