Exporters warned about imminent trade challenges
Deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Gaylard Kombani on Tuesday warned exporters of the challenges that lie ahead as the world heads towards tariff reduction. High tariffs have often been sited as an obstacle to the attainment of free and fair trade especially for smaller countries, whose goods cannot compete with those from bigger economies, thus making it near impossible for them to penetrate the international market.

City greens want update on water restrictions
The green industry in the Greater Gaborone - one of the water-reliant economic sectors says it is time the water restrictions imposed by the Water Utilities Corporation in December 2004 were lifted (re-visited). The restriction were imposed after the water level at Gaborone Dam reached record lows raising fears that the city could run dry but now after the recent rains, the dam level stands at 83 percent.

Maitisong, making the capital a little liveable
The age of globalisation generates a situation in which local government leaders have to continually review the extent to which their cities offer value - for not only businesses - but residents as well. They have to review both the physical infrastructure and regulatory environment and assess the extent to which these impede or facilitate business growth. These local leaders want to ensure that telecommunications, roads, real estate and the tax regime serve to facilitate and not punish, those who make a living in their cities.

BIFSC programme opens doors for young graduates
A dozen young graduates have been given a head start in their careers thanks to an initiative by Botswana International Financial Services Centre (BIFSC). The internship programme encourages companies in the private sector to take on interns identified by IFSC and give them valuable work experience for a few months. This arrangement often leads to full-time employment.
