“Before these insurances, an ordinary man could not afford a lawyer. But now, even a herd boy can sue his employer. People were demoralised by the P500 paid to open a file. Now with P45, a person can afford many legal services,” said the general manager of Letshego Legal Guard, Keletsositse Olebile. He revealed that the most common cases that require their attention are child maintenance; civil matters and people calling to seek legal advice. “We have so many people who are happy about our services. They have even volunteered to give testimony for free in the papers,” he said.
Another legal guard, Mosele is also enjoying a good response from the public. “People have joined in large numbers and even at the Trade Fair, those who have not joined showed keen interest. They see that it is something that can be very helpful to them in their lives,” said Mosele marketing manager, Gaenamele Mogami. He said that it is cheaper now to afford legal service. For P45 a month, Mosele helps with labour disputes, civil and criminal matters, family matters, contracts and wills. For P70 a month it assists with divorce, conveyance, taxation and winding up of deceased’s estate.
