“The main purpose is to groom the players from an early age in that area to be future players of volleyball in this country. The other reasons for opening the mini volleyball centre is to ensure that children in that area take part in sport in large numbers as we shall offer a number of volleyball courts and equipment to be used including skilled coaches,” BVF technical officer, Mission Mereyotlhe said in a statement.
He noted that already there are two teachers trained as volleyball coaches in the area and they will be taking care of BVF programmes. He said BVF will continue to train more teachers as volleyball coaches. Over 1000 children in the region will benefit from the BVF programme annually through the centre.
Member of Parliament for Okavango, Vista Moruti will officially open the centre on Friday. The BVF programmes are sponsored by Barloworld Botswana and supported by the Ministry of Education, the District Council and Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC).
“The programme will go a long way in promoting the Botswana National Sports Council Vision 2012 and the National Vision 2016 hence any support in this endeavour will be highly appreciated. We further invite other interested people to be part of our success. BVF will continue to monitor the progress of the players until they finish their senior secondary schooling. We will continue to consult other stake holders to ensure the children get the right training,” Mereyotlhe said.
