FRANCISTOWN: Four suspected thugs lost their nerve and abandoned a cash box containing over P300,000 yesterday a few kilometres from Francistown. The men are suspected to have robbed security officers from a private firm transporting money from the Trade Centre in Francistown. They panicked when the police stopped their car outside the centre. Senior Superintendent of Kutlwano police station, Victor Mutsu said the suspects fought with security officers to get the cash box. He said two of the four suspects were caught just a few kilometres from Francistown while they were trying to flee.

“We suspect that the men might have used weapons to force the security officers to hand them the cash box though we did not find any weapon in their possession,” said Mutsu.

He explained that the four men were using two cars and had dumped the first one at the Trade Centre just outside Francistown. “When the police pulled them over, they all tried to escape on foot leaving the cash box behind in the car but two of the robbers were not lucky,” said Mutsu. All the money - over P197,000 in cash and over P107, 000 in cheques - were recovered.
