However, a member of the group, Modisa Moletsane told Showbiz yesterday that he was not aware of Moeletsi’s unhappiness, but confirmed his departure. He said Moeletsi told them he no longer wanted to be a performing artiste, hence his departure. He added that Moeletsi had not been showing interest in the past, citing that he was always absent during recording sessions of their latest album and had taken part in only a few songs. Moletsane said Moeletsi’s departure was not a setback to the group and they had continued with their performances in and outside the country. He also said they had no problem with Ramogobya’s management. He noted that Moeletsi actually left the group in April, after the launch of their third album “The Second Coming”.
Attempts to get a comment from Ramogobya were fruitless.
Meanwhile, Moeletsi said he left the group so that he could practice what he had learnt in the world of arts. He said he is now doing multimedia, which includes Radio and Television advertising. He explained that joining Third Mind was just a platform into the arts and now he has grown and should be trying other avenues. He denied that he was not happy with the management. He however said he was not happy with some newspapers still using the Third Mind pictures that portray him as a member of the group.
The group has been nominated for Kora Awards due to be held in South Africa in December. A statement from Eric Ramco, the record label that produced the group since it was formed, said that the group was nominated in the best group from Southern Africa category competing with popular Malaika and Mafikizolo, among others. The group has been nominated for their song “Dilokile”.
The album, “The Second Coming” is also said to be selling very well, and enjoying airplay on local and international radio stations. Machesa Traditional group, which is also under Eric Ramco Records won a Kora Award in 2003 for best traditional group.
