FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) has launched its vision plan, which covers 2005 to 2014. The country’s oldest political party launched its vision at a press conference over the weekend during the first commemoration of Philip Matante Day in Tati-Siding.

The vision plan was initiated by BPP secretary general, Cornelius Gopolang. It was prompted by the fact that the vision of BPP president Bernard Balikani was changing the image of the party. The vision is meant to be a revival tool for the organisation and set forth a sound administration. “The programme of the vision plan among other things brings the structures of the party together; improves interaction of the leadership and the coordinators; and also presents many activities to the membership.

The programme is a working tool to the organisation and shall become a common purpose to all the members of the party. The ultimate goal of the working programme if implemented, is to win the 2014 elections with an overwhelming majority,” said Gopolang.

The BPP plans to create employment for 16 permanent staff and 70 casual workers. Its vision is meant to be a motivational device with set targets to be met. Branches are required to meet their targets of recruiting new members. The regions are required to meet their targets by depositing money into the party account on a monthly basis.

“The vision plan has introduced administration offices in the regions and each region will have a secretary and a driver. The office shall keep all party stationery that includes membership cards, party uniforms and t-shirts. The regional offices shall ensure that members of BPP are given the necessary education through seminars, workshops and study groups.” For administration purposes, the vision plan has marked the following as places for the regional offices; Palapye, Maun, Gantsi, Francistown, Gaborone, Selebi-Phikwe and Jwaneng.

According to the BPP vision plan, the regional offices disseminate information from the leadership to all the party structures. The vision plan has clarified roles and expectations in the party. All members of the central committee will become resource persons in the organisation.
