Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) technical officer, Bobby Gaseitsiwe has dismissed complaints of poor preparations by the four athletes who represented the country in the recent World Half Marathon in Edmonton, Canada. Gaseitsiwe said he is at a loss why Bashingili Ndabili, Kabo Gabaseme, Kaelo Mosalagae and Keineetse Moswaswi are complaining.

He told Mmegi Sport that the athletes are trained and prepared adequately for competitions. “And by virtue of us selecting them, it shows that we feel that they will be able to compete. We inform them well in time about the international competitions and it is not like we pick them and tell them they will be leaving tomorrow. Personally I think athletes should not make excuses. If they feel that they are not prepared, they should not go to these competitions,” Gaseitsiwe said.
He added that training is a process and it is an all year round thing. He said the BAA has a responsibility to ensure that athletes who are employed are not adversely affected by frequent training camps. He stressed that BAA does not have the money to keep the athletes in camp. He said they are not bothered by the complaints of the athletes.
“We try and give them the opportunity of training but they have their own opinions and are entitled to them. If we as an association were aware of their not being ready for the competition, we could not have taken them.”
He said BAA is not disappointed by the performance of the athletes in Edmonton.
