Khama intensifies BDP campaign
FRANCISTOWN: Vice President Ian Khama has intensified the campaign for his re-election as the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairman. Khama has launched a countrywide tour ostensibly to address party members in-house meetings, but those in the know say that this is a campaign strategy ahead of the party elections in July.

Assistant Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Olifant Mfa yesterday admitted that the government was wrong in failing to consult the House of Chiefs on the controversial Abolition of Marital Power Amendment Bill. He said the ministry overlooked the House of Chiefs because the amendment does not affect religious and customary marriages.

FRANCISTOWN: Petty traders have protested their forced evictions by the Francistown City Council (FCC) saying that it is not even-handed. Angry hawkers stormed the FCC offices recently and vowed that they would not leave any stone unturned in the fight for their rights.

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The chieftaincy crisis in Majwaneng village in Tswapong has been resolved. In a ruling on Tuesday in Majwaneng, the Chief of Lerala village, Sello Moroka dismissed the challenge of the Tshwabi family and said their Molebatsi rivals are the true heirs.
