But now it’s all doom. The boom, we are told, is bust. The economists having made a total mess of managing the economy are about to ask us all to understand that matters cannot continue as they have been. The poor must be told that they too, must pay for education, health and roads.

Cost recovery is the new philosophy of government. And whatever form this takes, we will need to understand that the result will be, sadly, more personal, family tragedies. We will reap, as we have sown.
