Mpofu defends Zimbabwe’s ambassador
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ernest Mpofu has defended the behaviour of Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Botswana at a seminar last week. Mpofu said that ambassador Phelekezela Mphoko was not out of order to rant and rave at panellists at the seminar that focused on Zimbabwe.

Gas dealer agrees to stop refills
FRANCISTOWN: After complaints from Tati residents, the proprietor of Power Gas, Mohammed Khan, has been ordered to stop re-filling gas cylinders at his premises. Deputy town clerk, Sonny said yesterday that he summoned Khan and told him that his trading licence does not allow him to refill gas cylinders.

If it were not for the help of good Samaritarians, Botswana would not have had its first and only Miss Universe in 1999. Mpule Kwelagobe who made Botswana proud in 1999 said yesterday that lack of support nearly knocked her out of the beauty pageant.

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Selebi -Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) Finance Committee has sent a delegation to the Local Government Minister Margaret Nasha over irregularities in the award of a security tender. Committee members have said that they are unhappy with the way the council handled the tender.

SELIBE-PHIKWE: In the African tradition, virginity has always been a respectable condition. For the girls, it was a symbol of pride. Girls jealously guarded their honour‚ until marriage. Though emphasis was much on honour and respect, the tradition helped in making sure girls indulged in sexual intercourse when they were ready-psychologically and physically.

Task force appointed for Tsamaya-Jackalas border dispute
FRANCISTOWN: A task force has been appointed to handle the boundary dispute between Tsamaya and Jackalas 2 villages in the North East. Residents of the two villages have accused each other of violating the boundary and the District Commissioner, Thandiwe Morupisi has intervened and appointed the task force. The two villages are feuding over Mabudzani settlement.

Police raid criminal den
FRANCISTOWN: The police have raided a criminal den and recovered goods worth over P17,000. The crime syndicate was busted at their camp a few kilometres in the thickets east of Francistown. However, the joint operation between the police and the army did not make arrests because the criminals ran away during the raid.

Cllr praises physical education fair
SEROWE: Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) nominated councillor, Prince Kgwaneng has said that a physical education fair would assist students to appreciate and acknowledge outstanding performances. Kgwaneng was the guest speaker at the Botswana Physical Education Health and Recreation Association (BOPHRA) national fair at Swaneng Hill Secondary School last Saturday.
