But Huggins had a special mission in contributing to the fight against HIV/AIDS, and his impact was felt through the Show You Care Campaign; a project close to his heart. The project was embraced by not only the community and corporate world, but also by Botswana's own youth.
For those who were close to Joseph, they will remember him as an ordinary yet extra ordinary human being, because of his simplicity, humbleness and a good sense of humour. He was always real. His passion about bringing HIV/AIDS to it's knees was a part of his daily life. His famous quotes, often expressions on which his own life was fashioned, will be remembered for a long time, as they inspired many a person to action in this war.
Therefore in honour of and in celebration of Huggins' work here is Botswana, a book is being finalised which is a compilation of his truly inspiring, memorable speeches. This will include swearing in with Secretary of State, Hon Colin Powell. The book is entitled "US Ambassador to Botswana, Joseph Huggins Speaks."
This book is being published as a tribute by a friend, Nathan Kgabi with the close input of Huggins and his immediate staff, at all stages.
The publication is a non-profit project, and the cost will be covered with the help of a collection of corporates and individuals who were truly inspired by Huggins' work in Botswana, and who feel that his speeches, which were characteristic of his life and work, will continue to inspire and inject new enthusiasm into many in Botswana even long after he has left.
If you or your organisation wishes to be involved, be sure to contact Michelle at Mmegi, 3974784 or we will be calling you for the special publication on his speeches.
