Clothes for disabled go missing

Clothes and shoes donated to people living with disabilities in Tshimoyapula and Majwaneadipitse villages have gone missing. The donations were in the custody of health workers in the two villages.

The chairperson of the Serowe Association For The Disabled, Punnie Koloi, said the 10 bails of clothes and shoes were collected from their offices by a vehicle from clinics in the two villages. The association’s offices are in Serowe.

“I asked for clothes for all the disabled people for the villages of

Tshimoyapula and Majwaneadipitse and I gave the 10 bails to the health worker to distribute to the disabled. The health worker came with clinic transport to pick them from the office in Serowe and after that, all the 10 sacks of clothes vanished.

I had approached Dr Jimmy Legge of the Intlo Ya Evangeli Church who has been helping all the disabled with clothing for all these past years, some of the clothes are new and some are old. When I made a follow up, I found out that none of the disabled people were given the clothes and none of the health workers is willing to talk to me about what happened,” said an angry Koloi. She claimed she has seen some people who have no disabilities wearing the clothes. The donated clothes are said to be from the United Kingdom.

“At a funeral at Tshimoyapula, I met some two ladies who were wearing the clothes I had sent out for the disabled. I asked the nurse of the village who informed me to talk to the health worker because she is the one responsible for the distribution of the clothes.

When I approached the health worker, she openly ran away from me and I never spoke to her since then. But I know the clothes meant for the disabled are being sold to the villagers. I intend to do the distribution of the clothes myself after what I found out. I will not trust anyone with them again,” said Koloi.

When contacted, Legge said the matter is out of his hands because he only donates the clothing and if they go missing, there is nothing he can do about it. The concerned health workers from the two villages could not be contacted to comment.
