SELEBI-PHIKWE: Councillor Sudzani Podiephatshwa of Botshabelo West has lodged a complaint of harassment against Botswana Congress Party’s Selebi-Phikwe West parliamentary candidate Gil Saleshando.

She claims that Saleshando charged at her in the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) office and accused her of trafficking voters into Selebi-Phikwe. She has forwarded the complaint to the District Officer and the IEC. The councillor is said to have taken some people to get registered when she met Saleshando. She claims that the former MP tried to grab an identity card from one of the voters brought for registration by the councillor and demanded to know where she came from.
Meanwhile, the tearing down of campaign posters has hit Selebi-Phikwe. The posters are usually torn apart by rival political activists who trail teams putting up the posters. A youth who tried to pull down a BCP poster from one shop was identified and reported to the police. It is alleged that he had said that he did not want to set his eyes on anything that is associated with BCP. The party’s council candidate for Ikageleng Phase Two, Peggy Kenosi, said they were very disappointed by what happened stating that such incidents have been taking place but they were unable to locate the culprits. “What the young man did is an offence punishable by law and we have the right to demand the money we spent purchasing those posters.”
She added that every member of their party is taught to ignore and disregard other parties’ business during their campaigns.
