The Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) won the Botswana Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) inter-club tournament on Saturday at Lobatse Senior Secondary School. Abel Kandela, a student at the school pounded his opponent mercilessly to help BMC to victory. He ran amok in the last round and beat the day lights out of Kholani Ntshupetsang of Selibe Phikwe BDF club.

This was clearly the fight of the day and it kept spectators on their toes.Kandela did not give Ntshupetsang any chance in the last round. He floored him three times. After the fight, his enthusiastic fans stormed the ring in celebration even though the results had not been announced. They were sure that their man had won. The wild celebrations went on long after the tournament as Kandela became the toast of his school mates.

Another thrilling fight was between Tshepo Oabile of BMC and Bonang Molapo of the Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) in the feather weight division. The BMC boxer was on the rampage as he unleashed a flurry of punches that overwhelmed his opponent.

Tshepho was inspired by the home crowd who wanted him to go for the kill. At some stage, the entire hall was reverberating with chants of Tsheepoo ….Tsheepoo!

The BMC pugilist who encountered little resistance won the fight.

Thato Batshegi of Jwaneng club and Kebonyethebe Ramaboana of Thebephatswa started their fight on a high note to the joy of the fans. The two boxers traded ferocious punches but as the fight went on, it was clear they were becoming exhausted. However, Ramaboana managed to steal the fight.

Tshepo Molefe of SSKB was lucky not to suffer a knock out from the pounding he got from Obakeng Makabe. He beat the count three times but eventually lost the bout. Master Luza who did not perform well at the Olympics, managed to salvage some pride as he easily outclassed Thabo Motshewa of BDVC. Motshewa was no match for the experienced Luza. At some stage he was running around the ring to evade Luza’s punches.

Gilbert Khunwane lost his fight against Moabi Mathiba of BDVC after he suffered a facial injury. The fight had to be stopped because of the injury. The Saturday tournament lived up to expectations of boxing followers.

The next event on the BABA calendar would be the national championships in Jwaneng next month. The finals of the championships would be in Gaborone.
