Moshupa schools battle in volleyball festival

BOITUMELO KHUTSAFALO

Moshupa Primary Schools will today battle it out in the Barloworld Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) Mini Festival. The event, which is the culmination of the on-going Sports Aid Workshop will be held at Kgabophuti Primary School in Moshupa.

Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) technical officer, Mission Mereyotlhe told Mmegi Sport yesterday that BVF has been holding international coaching courses for teachers countrywide. He also said that the idea of choosing Moshupa schools was based on the fact that they are already more advanced and ahead in volleyball than other primary schools in the country.

He also said that the event has been taking place every year and added that it has brought positive results as trained teachers have been doing an impressive job - developing the game of volleyball for pupils.

He added that Barloworld, who are the sponsors of the event, should be commended for encouraging the development of volleyball in Botswana.

Trophies will be awarded to the schools that reach the final of the festival.

The games will start at 9am and the finals will be held the same day at 4pm.

Meanwhile the race for the Mascom League and Top One Mageu League championships continues this weekend as teams battle it out in the second round games.

Defending champions and log leaders in the South Region, BDF V1 will be aiming to maintain their consistence when they meet Kalavango. BDF will later in the day tackle Teletswana. Though BDF have the edge, they know very well that Teletswana are no pushovers and will be aiming to maul them. BDF VI coach Selebatso Mabutho said he is trying to give his players - who have not been getting first team action - a chance to play as he is trying to select a 12-man team to play in the Zone Six Club Championship later this month. Though they have enough depth, this might give Teletswana a chance to taste victory against them after a very long time.

They will later play Desert Kings, who will play against Kutlwano. In other games, Mafolofolo will tackle Kalavango and Victory Seekers. All the games will be played on Sunday at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB).

In Top One Mageu, Mafolofolo who enjoyed a series of wins last Saturday beating both Spiking Stars and Kalavango 3-0 will be hoping to extend their lead at the top of the log when they play Kutlwano, BDF VI and Teletswana tomorrow. Kutlwano will also tackle BDF VI and Spiking Stars while Teletswana play Kalavango. The games will take place at SSKB.

The north region will also see electrifying encounters including Electra versus Spartons, Spartons versus Sparrows, Electra versus Diphatsa and Spartons versus Mag Stimela, which will be played in Selebi-Phikwe tomorrow.
