Surprise As BDP Retains Mogoditshane

Against expectations, the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has retained Mogoditshane constituency. After the now infamous evictions that rocked the village in the last few years, it was widely expected that the opposition would greatly benefit from what caused a major national outcry.

The BDP won the constituency again by beating both the Botswana National Front (BCP) and the Botswana Congress Party (BCP). The BDP’s Patrick Masimolole polled 2,375 votes followed by the BNF’s Keetla Masogo who garnered 2,111 votes. Former Mogoditshane MP Mokgweetsi Kgosipula was third with 1,538 votes.

Already supporters of the BNF and the BCP are accusing each other as spoilers who allowed the BDP to win the seat.

The combined votes of the BCP and the BNF would easily come to 3,649, which would far outstrip the BDP vote by a margin of 1,274.
