Gaborone Romps Home In South East

Botswana National Front’s (BNF), Olebile Gaborone walked away with the South East North constituency parliamentary seat with 3,243 votes. Trailing behind was Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) candidate Shirley Segokgo with 2,470 and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) John Mokgalagadi with 902 votes.


Prior to crunch time during the counting of votes at Matlala Community Junior Secondary School hall, Segokgo and Mokgalagadi looked calm in their seats whilst Gaborone could be seen walking in and out of the hall jovially.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Nawa of BCP grabbed the council seat for Taung ward with 558 votes, while only 256 votes went to BDP and 94 votes went to BNF. BDP Molefe Seitshiro won the council seat for Kgale ward with 107 votes and BCP received 89 votes. BNF’s Same Bathobakae won Tlokweng South area with 534 votes, 516 votes went to BDP and 45 votes went to BCP. Tlokweng South West went to Borry Nkwe of BNF, who had 252 votes and BDP came behind with BDP by 233 and BCP received 108 votes. Tlokweng West was taken up by BDP’s Ntwaetsile Tiro with 420 votes. BNF trailed behind with 391 votes and BCP had only 75 votes.

The BNF took Sefoke council seat with 491 votes, BDP received 320 votes and BCP got 129 votes. Tlokweng Central went to BNF with 529 votes, BDP got 398 votes and BCP got 107 votes. Metlhabeng council seat was taken by BDP with 243 votes, BNF followed with 113 votes and lastly BCP got 77 votes.

Lenganeng council seat was taken by BNF with 334 votes, followed by BDP with 130 votes and BCP with 57 votes.

Meanwhile, in Gaborone South the BNF swept the stakes to win all the five council wards in Gaborone South constituency.
