Despite concerted efforts to curb teenage pregnancy, statistics show that we are failing and may continue to fail, if we don’t change the approach. Telling young people about sex and how to prevent STDs and HIV/AIDS alone will not take us anywhere.

Sweet and sour spirits
What I enjoy most about the Nitty Gritty is the pervading sense of fellowship and camaraderie. You literally feel at home when you are within the four cream-coloured walls of the shebeen. I think also this atmosphere is encouraged by the plaque on top of the mantel piece right in front of the green couch, which reads; “If you don’t stay bitter for too long, you will find some sweetness here!”
