Since it opened its doors early this year, the exhibition has become an instant sensation with the Australian public.
The flagship development featuring a pride of lions is the zoo’s largest development.
Modelled on the plains of Botswana, the exhibition incorporates the Zoo’s already popular African walking trail, offering viewing opportunities of two lion groups in their natural African habitat.
The wildlife experience was designed to dramatically explore the conflict and issues of coexistence between people and lions in areas where lions and human settlement boundaries overlap.
Through audiovisuals, sounds, props and zoo staff, Lions On The Edgepromises a sense of discovery with visitors coming face to face with this majestic animal as the lion tracks down lunch, avoids local farmers and finally makes way to his resting place.
Much of the material has been sourced from Botswana and includes multi-media presentations prepared by the Department of Tourism. The exhibition includes a typical lolwapa and moraka.
Lions On The Edge is now considered a showcase for Victoria Zoo’s vision ‘to build enduring relationships between people and wildlife for a future in which people live in balance with the natural world.’ The exhibition was recently visited by Botswana’s High Commissioner to Australia Molosiwa Selepeng.
