The Pageant That Never Was ...Again

Whilst the Mr World Botswana Pageant 2004 was postponed a second time last week Friday, changes are to be made within the elusive management board of which Tebogo Duna is the only person known.

Former Mr Botswana, Felix Chagaphi confirmed to Showtime on Saturday afternoon that pretty soon he will not only be handing over the crown, but he will also be joining the board of managers of the pageant.

“The pageant has been postponed one too many times now. This could spell out that there is a problem with the current management. However the public still deserves the pageant they have been promised,” he stated. He said that for the pageant to be postponed a second time is a clear lack of organisation. Furthermore he stated that he has a lot of experience, which he believes can serve this pageant well.

Chagaphi said a pageant of this magnitude deserves a good amount of time to prepare and he further added that a tentative date for the pageant is August.

Showtime could not reach Duna, the organiser of Mr World Botswana, for a comment at the time of going to press.

According to one of the contestants, sponsors of the pageant are still unknown. His suspicion is that there are no sponsors. He believes that this is the reason why the pageant was postponed again.

Another contestant told Showtime that they still have confidence that the pageant will be held, but he admitted that he has incurred costs because of the postponements.

Prizes for the pageant have not changed. The winner still receives a Nissan Hardbody vehicle and residential accommodation for a year in a place still unknown to the press and the contestants. The second prize will be P20,000 while the third prize is P10 000. Each contestant will receive a consolation prize of P2,500 including hampers. All this is courtesy of unknown sponsors.
