PRESIDENT Festus Mogae yesterday bid farewell to the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, Kingsley Sebele, who is retiring at the end of the month.

At the brief ceremony at the Office of the President, Sebele expressed gratitude to the President for having given him a chance to prove himself in the public service as PS. Sebele who has been in the public service for 38 years, said that he felt it is necessary to pay his final respects to Mogae who appointed him PS.

He said Mogae has influenced his rise in the public service as far as when he was still Permanent Secretary to the former President, Ketumile Masire. He said he first joined the public service in June 1966. Sebele said even though he is retiring, he could still be consulted for assistance.

Mogae briefly acknowledged the long history of association with Sebele, dating back to 1961. Mogae thanked Sebele for the service he rendered for 38 years.

Mogae wished Sebele well, saying that he should enjoy his deserved retirement. In his career Sebele has been a PS, ambassador to the US from 1989-1995 and resident ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995.
