According to Luke’s employer Bester Gabotlale, he had just paid Luke, who was his herdman, that evening.
“Luke left the compound with a companion and went to a neighbouring shebeen. I understand that when they got there he had an argument with Batshitile,” says Gabotlale.
The deceased and his companion complained about some donkey meat that the accused was carrying. The two asked him to take the meat away, as they could not stand its smell. However, he refused and the deceased took the meat and put it outside the fence.
“The accused got angry and stabbed the deceased’s companion who managed to escape with only a torn shirt. He then went back to the deceased and stabbed him on the chest,” says Gabotlale. Upon his arrival at the scene, Gabotlale found his herdman lying in a pool of blood.
Gabotlale, who was still distressed by the incident, said the deceased was a hardworking, sociable and jolly person.
The acting Station Commander of Letlhakane, Solomon Sedumedi, confirmed that the case was reported on Saturday evening and said the accused had been remanded pending investigations. Sedumedi said the case would be transferred to the High Court after the investigations.
