Kirby to shake-up AG’s
THE Attorney General, Ian Kirby has said that the increased volume of work in the administration of justice has necessitated massive changes in the state law office. Speaking yesterday at the inauguration of the legal year in Lobatse, Kirby said that already a structural review has been undertaken to determine how the A-G’s Chambers can be reformed to serve the interests of the public and effect good governance.

SELIBE-PHIKWE: Botswana National Front (BNF) leader, Otsweletse Moupo has encouraged members of the party to vigorously market its policies. Speaking at a political rally last Sunday at the Mma-Duna shopping complex, Moupo said marketing the BNF’s political programme was the only way in which Batswana could understand if they were following a party with a direction or otherwise.

GCC struggles with advertising litter
LACK of funds is said to be thwarting Gaborone City Counci’sl (GCC) efforts to deal with litter created by indiscriminate advertising. GCC principal by-law enforcement officer Calvin Badube told Mmegi yesterday that although they are concerned about the impact of the paper and cloth adverts, which are normally left hanging after they expire, it was difficult to deal with the problem because of manpower shortages.

No duplicate certificates at UB - Moribame
THE University of Botswana (UB) does not give duplicate certificates, its director of public affairs, Samuel Moribame has said. He told Mmegi yesterday that giving out a duplicate certificate could compromise the security of the educational qualifications that it offers. He said the university policy is not to issue a duplicate certificate except in cases where the original has been damaged.

Railway workers petition VP
THE Botswana Railways Amalgamated Workers Union (BRAWU) has presented a petition to the Vice President, Ian Khama, appealing for intervention in their protracted negotiations for a salary increase. The petition was presented to a representative of the District Administration in Mahalapye, who promised to forward it to the Vice President’s office.

Police, military sent on wild goose chase
FRANCISTOWN: Four Phatlhugo Primary School pupils recently sent parents, police and a military officer on a wild goose chase after they reported that one of their fellow pupils had drowned in Ntshe River.

IEC amends Electoral Act
