THE music festival held at Blue Tree over the weekend was a success. The event featured South African kwaito stars Arthur Mafokate, Kabelo Mabalane, Mapaputsi and Mzekezeke. The local line up included T-Joint, Whola Jents, The Queen of Sands “Maxy” aka Olebile Sedumedi and kwaito sensation Vee.

The show, which was organised by CBBZ Entertainment Promotions, was held in style. As is the norm with local shows, local artists did not create headlines. First on stage was Arthur Mafokate, followed by a masked Mzekezeke - who never shows his face on stage, Kabelo Mabalane, Mapaputsa and then the local groups.
The opening acts were performed earlier to allow SA artists to attend the funeral of Mafikizolo’s Tebogo Madingoane’s, who was buried on Sunday. The show began on time with local DJs entertaining the crowd with a number of spins before artists took the stage.
As the evening progressed, the large crowd of intoxicated youngsters inevitably began to misbehave during Arthur’s performance. They started throwing empty bottles on stage to spite security guards for whipping a few revellers for getting too close. Fortunately, no one was injured in the bottle throwing incident.
It did not take long for crafty DJ Bulldog to calm the angry revellers who were then shouting, “We want Arthur!” and finally the young kwaito star was brought back on stage to rock the crowd.
Mzekezeke took the crowd by storm with his latest single “Guca Ngamadolo” meaning Khubama ka mangole in Setswana. The revellers responded by shouting “Shai Guca, Guca, Guca Ngamadolo”. As usual local stars Vee and T-Joint wooed the audience with favourites like ‘Chencha Number’ and ‘Lamalanga’.
