BBS no longer test for pre-employment

2/25/2004 10:35:31 PM (GMT +2)

The Botswana Building Society (BBS) would like to inform the public and other interested parties that it no longer requires prospective employees to undergo pre-employment testing for HIV/AIDS.

The Society has made efforts to manage this epidemic at the workplace. There are now 20 trained peer educators assisting in promoting HIV/AIDS awareness and counselling of staff. An AIDS awareness committee has also been formed to lend support to these initiatives.

In addition, the Society pays 100 percent of subscriptions for medical aid scheme for all staff and their dependents. The scheme covers dread diseases including HIV/AIDS.

The Society supports government’s efforts in fighting this scourge and will uphold the National Aids Policy, as the guiding document in formulating a comprehensive AIDS policy.
