Poaching is rife in Notwane

2/13/2004 12:48:55 AM (GMT +2)

I would like to bring to people’s attention the fact that poaching is more than rife in our area of Notwane.

Is there nobody who takes any interest in these matters? Is there nothing that can be done?

The poachers operate along the border fence, riddling it with snares of all sizes, often catching dogs, that they then take to South Africa to sell.

We hear hunting dogs and large calibre-rifle shooting, often just across from our house. It is very scary, and much too close. We even see the men across the river and hear them shouting and the stressed snorting of impala and kudu.

I have reported the shootings to the police, who responded by phone, but never came. Can police actually do anything about poaching across the border fence?

I find it very frustrating to just have to watch this crime helplessly.
