BVF holds mini volleyball festival in Masunga

12/1/2004 2:18:43 PM (GMT +2)

Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) will host an Under-13 festival at Masunga Sports Complex on December 3-4. From November 2003 Barloworld Botswana has sponsored the festival with P100, 000. The money has been used to train coaches and hold mini-volleyball festivals.

The events are part of Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) and BVF Vision 2012.

This year, 66 teams (33 boys and 33 girls) from all over the country will be participating in the Masunga event. The main purpose of the festival is to get children from all over the country together to play for leisure and enjoyment; to check the technical ability of the children; check the ability of the coaches; to have fun; and to identify future players that could be monitored and trained.

The festivals are also meant to mobilise sportspeople at community level; and carry the sponsors’ vision of community development through volleyball. The winners will take a floating trophy and all the participants will get kits from Barloworld Botswana.

The games will start at 3pm and will be officially opened by Barloworld Managing Director, Peter Stevenson.

The following regions will be taking part; North East East and West, Tutume West, Francistown, Chobe, Tonota, Okavango, Bobirwa, Seleka, Serowe North and South, Mahalapye, Gaborone, Moshupa, Kweneng North and West, Central, Gantsi, Orapa, Tsabong and Lobatse.

The surprise comers to the festival are Kaudwane Primary School (Kweneng West) Xakao Primary School (Okavango) East Hanahai Primary School (Gantsi). This is the largest festival since the introduction of mini-volleyball in primary schools. Over 600 children will take part.
