Chissano is a rare leader in Africa
In a place that is starved of good news, Mozambique’s outgoing president Joachim Chissano is a rarity. In 1986, following the death of Mozambique’s first president Samora Machel, Chissano took over the leadership of a country ravaged by civil war, and ranked among the world’s poorest.
