BoB to issue new hundred Pula note

12/6/2004 11:21:48 PM (GMT +2)

A new P100 (one hundred Pula) banknote will be issued into circulation by mid-December, the Bank of Botswana has said. The bank said in a press statement on Friday that the new banknote will retain the general appearance of the existing P100 banknotes in terms of colour and layout.

However, it said the new note will be distinctly different from the existing one in some respects and implored the public to note these changes.

The new banknote has additional features, such as the intaglio printing with a raised effect, which can be felt, extending to the top and bottom edges of the banknote.

The other feature is a silver-coloured dual-image hologram, which appears at the bottom edge of the note and features the number “100” and a zebra as two switching images, with the smaller image of diamonds in the background. The hologram is overprinted with intaglio printing.

The value “100” appears as an additional bright watermark and an additional corner Watermark (Cornerstone) consisting of diagonal lines appears at each corner.

The note has a Colour-Changing Security Thread (Star Chrome)- a metallic security thread, which changes colour from red to green, according to the viewing angle, and when held up to light can be seen as a continuous line reading “BoB 100”

The bank said the posters showing the new banknote, as well as giving specifications thereof, will be displayed shortly in various public places.

Publicity will also appear in the newspapers.
