FRANCISTOWN: Police managed to recover stolen goods in the early hours of yesterday in the area near the Zimbabwe and Botswana border. The trail of the property, which was traced from Francistown, includes electronic equipment such as music systems, television sets, videocassette recorders and various assorted pieces of clothing, which are still unclaimed.

“We are very worried by the prevalence of break-ins which take place day and night. We found the property hidden in the bush at about eight in the morning during one of our patrols. The perpetrators are clearly very organised as one could see from the way they packed their loot,” said the Francistown station commander Superintendent Chajane Baleseng.

The incident follows a similar one that took place at about the same place two weeks ago. The recovered property also still remains lying unclaimed at the station. Baleseng argues that the property might be unclaimed because the owners may be ignorant of their belongings’ serial numbers. He advises the public to mark their properties for easy identification. He suspects that the property could have been coming from different criminal incidents and bundled for transportation.

“Decoders, DVDs, VCRs are in demand. People should ensure that when they leave their houses for a day or so, they leave these electronic devices with their neighbours and friends where there would be people to take care of them,” he said.

Still yesterday, the police arrested two Batswana men aged 22 for stealing P1 000. The other two ran away. He contended that locals collude with foreigners to commit crime.

In another incident, a middle-aged woman was raped at her home in Residential location. She screamed for help but the public responded late to her call. The culprit made away with P800 and left the woman bruised. Investigations are still continuing.
