This is an opportunity for regional leadership
Since Tuesday, President Festus Mogae has been deputy chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). This is an opportunity for Botswana to take the lead in regional matters. Often, when it is suggested that Botswana should provide leadership, members of government like to point out that being a small country, Botswana has no weight to throw about. This seems to suggest that leading is, by definition, only about bludgeoning those being led into submission. It is a wrong view of leadership.
